AILYN MORERA UGALDE
Director of "Wings to Fly"

Ailyn is a Costa Rican actress, script writer, dramaturgist and director of theatre. She is presently a script writer for the TV series, "The Pension" on Channel 7 and Director of the Theatre Group “Archipiélago.”She has a Master's Degree in Central American Cultural Studies with a concentration in literature and a Bachelor's Degree in Dramatic Arts, both from the National University of Costa Rica in Heredia.
Ailyn has directed several productions, including:
- Mal Dormir (Bad Sleep) by José Sanchis Sinisterra, performed in the Oscar Fessler Theater, 2007. The show won the Escalante Theatre competition sponsored by the Spanish Cultural Center and the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture and Youth.
- Qué lindas que son las ticas...pero solo las lindas. (How pretty are the Ticas, but only the pretty ones). She also wrote and acted in this play at the National Festival of the Arts, in Limón, in 2003 in the 1887 Theatre, which also toured Costa Rica. In 2006 it was also presented at the University of Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
- Moravia… aquellos tiempos. (Those were the times) , an historical play about the Province of Moravia, In 2002, which she wrote and directed.
- Clorito Picado, a documentary in which Ailyn was artistic director with Kandil Productions in 1999.
- El Prócer, by Humberto Constantini in 1998, which was shown at the Art Center and Atahualpa del Cioppo Theater, at the National University of Costa Rica in Heredia.
She has written numerous scripts for television and theatre, including:
- From 2002-2007 she wrote more than 50 scripts for the sitcom “La Pensión”, for TV Channel 7 of Costa Rica;
- A play entitled Dicen las paredes (The Walls Speak) in 2006, which was directed by Maria Bonilla and presented in the Teatro Giratablas, in San José, Costa Rica. This play was selected by the International Theatre Institute in Greece to represent the best of Costa Rican Theatre.
- A musical show for adolescents called Alas de Papel (Paper Wings), 2004.
- A play entitled Una Flor en el Ojal (A Flower in the Buttonhole) in 2003, about women’s participation in Costa Rican politics, produced by the Women’s Parliament and presented in the 1887 Theate in San José, Costa Rica and also a national tour.
- Murmurio, a play (unedited) in 2002.
As an experienced actress, Ailyn has performed in:
- The play Álbum de Familia (Family Album) by Nelson Rodríguez in 2001, directed by David Korish and Roxana Ávila and performed in the FANAL Theatre and Atahualpa del CioppoTheatre.
- Asesinato en el Meneo, a movie directed by Oscar Castillo and produced by La Mestiza Productions, 2001.
- Ashort video entitled, Requiem, directed by Víctor Vega in 2001, which won the Best Video Fiction Award in the Costa Rican Film Festival.
- La Flor amarga (The Bitter Flower) a documentary by Luis Gamboa, which won the Best Documentary Award in the Costa Rican Film Festival.
- Crónica de una Muerte Anunciada (Chronice of a Death Foretold), a play based on a novel by Gabriel García Márquez, directed by Luis Carlos Vázquez, presented at the National Auditorium in 1999.
Ailyn has taken several specialized courses, including:
- Theatre writing “Dramaturgy of Fragmentation” in the Theatre Institute in Barcelona, Spain, 2006.
- Dramaturgy, taught by José Sanchis Sinisterra in El Salvador, El Carromato, as part of a training project in the Central American Theater Sector, ASDI 2003-2006 in San Salvador, El Salvador, 2006.
- 20th Century Latin American Theater, taught by Dr. Robert Neustadt (University of Arizona at Flagstaff), visiting professor at the National University of Costa Rica, 2004.
- Seminar on Creativity, Art and Education taught by Dr. Manfred Spitzer, at the Centro de Investigación, Docencia y Extensión Artística at the National University of Costa Rica, 2004.
- Workshop in script writing taught by Pedro Molina Temboury at the Spanish Cultural Center, 2002.
- Course in drama writing taught by Gabrio Zappelli at the School of Dramatic Arts, University of Costa Rica, 2000.
- Acting and Theater Promotion at the National Theatre Workshop with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, 1989.
