The grace of the three flamenco dancers resonated with the audience who filled the room of the ecological Hotel Marañon, west of San José. The performance began when Constanza Rangel, Cristina Van der Laat, and Silvia Albarca grasped their long flowing skirts and began the intense tapping of their heels to the rhythm of the castanets. This passionate rhythm was intermingled with the poems of García Lorca, the dancers with their hands extended and lifted in flight like the wings of a butterfly, the long fingered hands of Larrisa Coto like wings tapping on the flamenco box drum, and the Spanish-style guitars of the Mejías brothers, Jose and Juan.

In that moment, the diversity of the audience didn't matter, all were mesmerized by the spectacle unfolding before them. They consisted of nearly 60 people, among them a table full of Germans, another of French women and yet another of young people from the US, Canada and Norway. The rest of the audience was a Tico majority, who were likewise diverse in terms of age (ranging from 10 to 81 years), people from rural provinces and urban area of the capital, and were Black, White, mestizo and mulatto.
