The book is the basis of the musical theatre show Wings of the Butterfly.
Alexander Obonaga Palau, General Manager of the editorial house said that it is an honor for them to be able to publish a book that renders visibility to so many untold stories of women throughout history “especially when it is about women who have made such amazing contributions in all disciplines, yet remain unknown”.
Suárez said that for her this contract is a "dream come true" in the sense that she had hoped that the book would be published and widely distributed before the Wings of the Butterfly show went on stage. “Editorial Norma has one of the broadest distributions in the region and is determined to publish the book before February, 2008 which will be the opening of Wings of the Butterfly in Costa Rica”, noted Suárez.
She also explained that the broad distribution, together with the book's connection to art through the show will make it accessible to both men and women. “Wings is about women, but it is not only for women because men will also be able to appreciate what they are missing when they do not hear the half of humanity that is female. Wings will show all that women's concern with their own invisibility is not only about their right to be heard, but about contributions that remain hidden, particularly in an historical moment when new ideas are urgently needed to tackle current global challenges regarding climate change, conflict resolution, equality and social justice”, said Suárez.
The book will first be published in Spanish. A fundraising campaign has been launched to translate the book into English. The book is being edited by Costa Rica feminist writer, Yadira Calvo Fajardo.
