BUTTERFLIERS

-
Alda Facio of Costa Rica became a Butterflier in Alas de Mariposa by way of the national advisory group's decision, together with FIRE, to nominate her for the PERDITA HOUSTON AWARD in 2007.
She ended in the list of 10 honorary mentions, which is why Alas decided to include the description of her contributions in the BUTTERFLIER section of Alas.

We learned about Guadalupe Salazar Diaz of Mexico from her granddaughter, Carolyn Muñoz, who sent us a story she wrote: "So much of my grandmother that was invisible to many was only visible to me, not just because of the legacy of love and compassion she left, but in how she lived her life-always singing a song, feeling the music of life that was hard, and beautiful, and unfair, and wonderful" (May 31, 2007).
-
Valerie Miller sent us a note about the Mirabal sisters of the Dominican Republic, who are commemorated around the world each year on November 25th with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
-
Janine Fafard sent us the following quote:
"My dream for this world is a world where women and men are in co-equal partnership, as the native Americans say. Humanity is flying really with one wing and the other wing is wounded and broken, and so we are flying in circles. But when the wing of women, of the feminine, can fully extend itself and heal and be strong, then we can soar as a human community."
