... INTENCIONALITIES

“Lucy” will be the main character that will run across the show. She is one of the oldest bone structures found by anthropologists, dating more than three million years ago. In an imaginary letter that she writes today, she narrates what could have happened during the transition from matrilineal to patriarchal social formations and its consequences for humanity and the planet: there is a lost paradigm in history, a paradigm that exists in us. There is a sense of urgency for humanity to reconnect with that Vital re-emerging Paradigm.

Wings of the Butterfly documents(*) through the stories of women, how in the last 5,000 years in Patriarchy, women have been:

    • Dispossessed of their history
    • Dissociated from their female powers
    • Displaced of the shared power of the construction of human civilization
    • Invisibilized in their contributions to science
    • Silenced and abused
    • Forced to abandon their places of origin with their families and communities
    • Undervalued and utilized in the development of technologies
    • Undervalued and rendered “transparent” in humanity’s scientific and cultural development
    • Doubly exploited in the work place

But with the emergence and development of feminism, they start to:

    • NAME their insatisfactions with the status quo
    • RESIST to leave the past behind so that it does not repeat itself in the same way
    • MAKE their own feminist analysis that takes gender into account
    • STRENGTHEN themselves through self-help women collectives and spaces
    • CONSTRUCT their own inclusive epistemological framework
    • RECOVER their ancestral capacities to feel a part of the forces of the universe
    • RECONCEPTUALIZE their own spirituality
    • RENAME their own history, thus  reconceptualizing human historiy as a whole

All of this, out of the only thing that is left to them in Patriarchy: The powers that stem from their own life experience (vitality), which includes not only “experience” as such, but their dreams, visions, desires and ideals (subjectivity) and their contributions to the reconceptualization of the relationship between social and ecological interactions.

The geniality and main contribution of feminism has been its capacity to turn the knowledge that emerges from women’s NAMING of their common subordinate roles into its epistemological foundation, an epistemology that reveals the nature of domination as a political issue in all relationships.

Of the theatre show

2006 - 2008

  • Produce a musical theatre show that combines music, dance, oral stories, testimonies, plastic art and dramatization.
  • Present the show in public theatres for a general audience, especially in the Latin American and Caribbean region as the starting point.
  • Take the show to community, national and international events, connecting it with other initiatives.

2009

Create a methodological package where artistic groups, women’s groups and organizations and institutions can create, recreate and expand their own production of the show by having access to the package that will contain: a copy of the book in which the show is based,  the script of the show, a CD the music of the project, an interactive CD Rom and a video that documents how the process was constructed.

Of the process of popularization with and beyond the show

  1. Organize popularization workshops where participants can become acquainted with the women portrayed in the show and other “Butterfliers” that emerge in the process, combining their own experiences with those of the women whose stories they will get to know and appreciate.
  2.  Incorporate or link to the project other artists that emerge from the workshops and activities.
  3.  Incorporate participant’s testimonies about committed artistic expression that contributes to movement building though artistic expression.
  4. Create and work with an Advisory Group comprised of feminists in different disciplines who will participate in the process of creation of the conceptual framework of the show and other activities designed by the collective itself.
  5. Create and work with an International Advisory Group comprised of feminists that will help to “internationalize” the  project with their imput all along the process of preparation and help seek for creative ways to translate the theatre show and help it to be presented in different countries and events where the opportunity appears or is created.

Of the pr
ocess of research, documentation and dissemination

  • Continue researching and disseminating feminist works regarding women’s invisible contributions, paradigm shifts, committed artistic expression, among other issues.
  • Document the popularization process and methodology as a case study of an innovative feminist proposal to contribute to reactivate the feminist movement in a transformative perspective through artistic expression.
  • Gather and systematize the results of the documentation process, to be integrated into the creation of the project itself.
  • Interview women participants in the process for radio, TV, press and internet productions, so as to popularize the process though media also.
  • Produce a multimedia CD with the artistic expression, music, interviews, and testimonies.
